Grain! For some odd reason, these Ligne Bretagne stummels with the pointed bottoms like this tend to run very nice in the grain department - They're well better than the average. I don't know if those crates of old stummels came from a different supplier or mill or what, but they pretty consistently produce beautiful smooth crosscuts with hardly any surface flaws and nice bird's-eye.
